Portable buildings and modules for Saint-Gobain in France | Prefabri Africa

Prefabri Africa has carried out a new modular construction project in France. On this occasion, we have designed and manufactured two portable buildings and two prefabricated modules for a Saint-Gobain Group company that are located in the Paris area.

This is a project with special characteristics, in which the design of the portable buildings has been adapted to the customer’s needs. Taking into account the use that the client will give to the constructions, the materials and the level of insulation have been adapted to the applicable thermal regulation (RT2012).

The portable buildings are composed of two prefabricated modules measuring 6.00×2.40m each. Its internal height has been increased to 2,700mm. In addition, we will also provide a ramp to access the buildings as well as an entrance canopy. In compliance with French regulations on retail spaces, the ramp and access door have been designed in accordance with the requirements for people with reduced mobility.

Technical Features: Portable buildings and modules for Saint-Gobain

 portable buildings

Floor structure

The main floor structure of the portable buildings is composed by galvanized sheet profiles of 2.00 mm thickness shaped in cold. Transversally, Omega straps are placed, providing more stability to the floor for facing vibrations and charges. The straps support an 18 mm thick phenolic plywood board covered with grey vinyl PVC floor covering Sintasol Traviata 6026 (grey).

For insulation, we have placed sandwich polyurethane panels of 100mm thickness between the straps and the plywood.

The entire floor supports loads of 250 kg/m2 using, uniformly distributed.

Roof structure

The roof structure frame in the modular building is formed by 2 vertical and 2 horizontal galvanized profiles of 2.00 mm thickness shaped in cold. OMEGA galvanized steel straps are placed transversally. These Omega steel straps support a trapezoidal galvanized metal sheet of 5 notches with the thickness of 0.6mm attached to the profiles by means of self-threading screws with washers.

Columns

The columns are formed by asymmetric galvanized steel profiles shaped in cold of 2.00mm thickness. The columns are screwed to the floor structure and roof structure using special screws. There is a round PVC pipe with the diameter of 75mm serving as a gutter hidden in the interior of the column. The column is finished on its interior with a lacquered sheet that fastens the electrical mechanisms, plugs, switches and electric protection panel.

Lateral enclosure

The side walls are formed by PUR sandwich panels 80mm thick. Each panel consists of 2 lacquered galvanized steel sheets with a thermal and acoustic insulation polyurethane layer in the middle. The polyurethane is injected with a density of 40 kg/m3.

The thermal transmission coefficient is K=0,44 Kcal/m2 h ºC. In terms of fire resistance, this kind of panel is classified as M2 material.

False ceiling

The false ceiling is formed by galvanized and pre-lacquered metallic blades in white silicone polyester (0.5mm thickness). Between the false ceiling and the roof plate, we placed a double 80+80mm insulation fiberglass blade with vapour barriers.

Carpentry

In order to guarantee compliance with thermal insulation requirements and avoid heat loss, for all the windows and glazed panels we used double glass with an air chamber 4+4/16GAS/4+4, assuring thermal break.

Electrical installation

The electrical installation system is complete except for the electrical line up to the location of the module. All the electrical system and installations are adapted to the safety requirements.

Electrical supply is connected to the electrical box with an independent protection via magneto-thermal switches and switches necessary for lighting, emergency devices (in case of having ones), air conditioning and other uses. The box is protected against the direct and indirect contacts, over current or short circuit.

Transport and assembly

We transported the prefabricated modules already assembled in order to facilitate on site installation. Due to the height of the modules, the use of special transport was necessary. Access ramps and entrance canopies were supplied disassembled.

PREFABRICATED WORK CAMPS | PREFABRI AFRICA

Prefabri Africa is specialized in the design, manufacture and assembly of prefabricated work camps. We take part in construction, mining, oil & gas sectors. We also manufacture refugee camps.

We provide a complete service, which includes design, fabrication, transport and assembly of constructions at the place indicated by our clients.

We have available two modular construction systems based on client’s needs:

  • MODULAR CONSTRUCTION SYSTEM (CM)
  • FIXED MODULAR CONSTRUCTION SYSTEM (CMF)

Moreover, we have at our disposal high-standard products, made thanks to an European technology designed to withstand climatic conditions, cold, extreme heat and humidity.

PREFABRICATED WORK CAMPS: MODULAR CONSTRUCTION SYSTEM

Our modular construction system is based on fabrication and assembly of the free-standing prefabricated modules realized with a galvanized steel structure and insulating sandwich panels enclosing walls.

Those prefabricated modules can be used for independent spaces or for modular units via an assembly of different modules horizontally or vertically.

With this system there is no need to modify the foundations because the module is not fixed in the ground. Modules can be moved easily, that is why it is a perfect option for temporary or permanents camps.

Moreover, the CM system allows us to transport the modules in KIT (or Flat-Pack), which facilitates the on-site assembly, that can be done by untrained staff.

In addition to standard models, we manufacture made-to-measure modules with different dimensions, technical characteristics, interior layouts and equipment.

FIXED MODULAR CONSTRUCTION SYSTEM

We recommend choosing this system for projects such as permanent workspaces, which require a combination of specific spaces:  cafeterias, bedrooms, workshops and warehouses.

This system is based on metallic manufactured structures that are fixed to the slab previously made. The lateral enclosure is made with sandwich panels composed of steel sheet and polyurethane foam or Rockwool. The displacement to a new place requires the whole disassembly of the modules that is why this system is rather recommended for permanent camps.

Compared to  CM system, it provides a lot of advantages such as the versatility of the assembly, reduced costs, reduced transportation costs by delivering the materials disassembled but also  the possibility to get more opened-spaces, without pillars.

Security Portable Cabin for a photovoltaic power plant l Prefabri Africa

Prefabri Africa has carried out a new modular construction project applied to industrial solutions in Valencia. On this occasion, we installed two security portable cabins that will be used by the engineers of this photovoltaic plant to monitor the operation and production of the solar panels of the plant.

Our prefabricated solutions are ideal for this type of usages, given the advantages they offer with regard to traditional construction: logistical ease, quick installation of the structures, the minimal need of civil works and the modulation of spaces.

In this case, each of the security portable cabins is composed of a set of modules formed by two prefabricated diaphanous modules assembled. We used modules of 6,00×2,35m so the surface of each portable cabin goes up to 30m2. The security cabins are divided into two distinct areas: a working area for the engineers and a storage area for materials and control devices, which are connected by a sliding door. In the storage area, the floor structure has been reinforced to support a maximum load of 1200kg/m2 uniformly distributed. The modules were installed directly by Europa Prefabri with two technicians on site.

Technical specifications of the project: Security Portable Cabins for a photovoltaic power plant

Floor structure

The floor structure frame is formed by 2 vertical and 2 horizontal galvanized sheet profiles mm shaped in cold. There are OMEGA galvanized steel straps placed transversally achieving major stability supporting vibrations and heavy load. These straps support a water resistant phenolic plywood of 18mm thickness covered with grey PVC vinyl covering.

The floor structure described supports up to 250 kg/m2 uniformly distributed. We reinforced the floor structure in the storage area to a maximum load of 1200kg/m2.

Roof structure

The roof structure is formed by 2 vertical and 2 horizontal galvanized profiles shaped in cold. There are OMEGA galvanized steel straps placed transversally. These Omega steel straps support a trapezoidal galvanized metal sheet of 0.6mm thickness.

  • Waterproof lights with diffuser 2x36W
  • Oval Outdoor Wall Light 60w
  • Plug entries 16A+TT (when placed in the bathrooms these are waterproof)
  • Surface switches of 10A+TT

In addition, we carried out the complete installation of voice and data supplies for the security portable cabins.

TRADITIONAL OF PREFAB HOMES?

Until now, when we asked ourselves whether we wanted traditional or prefab homes, the answer was always quick: we preferred traditional ones.

Traditional construction assures security, as the house is built with bricks and concrete; and offers variety of designs and durability over time. However, more and more families are discovering the advantages of prefabricated construction.

Prefab homes arise as a result of the evolution that architecture and engineering have undergone in recent years. This evolution resulted in the application of the highest technology to finishes, designs and construction materials, thus allowing the appearance of a wide variety of prefab homes: steel, wood, concrete… all of them with two characteristics in common: reduced costs and shorter construction time.

Prefab homes have many advantages. Among them we can highlight: construction time, which is reduced by half compared to traditional construction; use of high quality materials, that show high resistance to climate changes and meteorological phenomena; portability, being recoverable by more than 90%; safety, provided by the appropriate assembly technique; variety of designs, with more than a thousand finishes; minimum maintenance needed and, of course, reduced costs.

In Silicon Valley itself, where access to housing is difficult even for engineers from large companies like Amazon and Google, these companies have ordered 300 prefab homes for their employees, saving up to $700 a month.

Former employees of huge companies like Aaron Holm, who worked in product management for Amazon, or Michael Marks, one of Tesla’s first investors, have been quick to create startups dedicated to the manufacture and assembly of prefab homes. The business incubator Y Combinator, cradle of the successful Airbnb, Dropbox or Reddit, has also decided to invest in this future-oriented construction and has gone one step further: it has created a startup, Acre Desingns, which creates prefabricated and energy-efficient homes.

Manufacture and assembly of site office at Reims (North of France)| Prefabri Africa

Prefabri Africa has carried out a new modular construction project in France. Last October we have finished the manufacture and assembly of three different site offices at Reims (North of France) for construction project purposes.

Technical features: Site offices at Reims

  • First tranch site offices: composed of 3 portable cabins of 6 x 2,40 m, one of them with a bathroom.
  • Second tranch site offices: composed of 5 portable cabins of 6 x 2,40 m, one of them with a restroom.
  • Third tranch site offices: composed of 15 portable cabins of 6 x 2,40 m, in two heights, with outside stairs. In this ensemble, there are 3 full restrooms.

For transport and logistics, we have manufactured 5 portable bathrooms for the site office completely finished and the other portable cabins have been manufactured and transported on KITS, for its assembly at the construction works.

As you will see in the pictures we attach, the structure is painted in the customer’s corporate colour.

The manufacture of the different site offices has been made with double panel in most of the modules to allow its individual use in the future or with different configurations. As permanent or temporal works infrastructure, portable cabins construction camps are the best option for easy assembly solutions.

The insulation of walls and windows can be adapted in thickness of material to adapt to any climate conditions or fire/sound proof applications in order to always offer the best solution and features to each project.

The spaces created with the different portable cabins and prefabricated modules can be easily adapted to the project needs: offices, dining halls, dressing rooms, bathrooms and sanitary facilities.

Industrialized construction in factory allows applying different quality controls in the production process, benefiting labour risk prevention by working on safer environments. On the other hand, it allows having a total control on the product manufacturing.

Customisation

Each customer is unique and has specific needs. The versatility of modular construction allows us to adapt our products to each customer, customizing the dimensions, distribution, materials and finishing of the constructions.

Insulation

We use innovative light materials that can have better levels of thermal and acoustic isolation and energy efficiency compared to traditional constructions.

A completely finished steel structure that consists of a floor-structure, a ceiling structure and pillars, each of them with its independent structural elements, compose prefabricated modules.

Dissembling and transportation

All modules can be easily transported, completely assembled in trucks, but also disassembled or in KIT (Flat-Pack system), which allows us to transport several modules in one truck or sea container, reducing transportation costs.

The design of our modules enables to assemble and disassemble them easily, even by personnel without any previous experience, thanks to the instructions and videos we provide.
